Victorian Christmas event, The Old Rectory

The Old Rectory Museum opened its doors on a cold, misty Saturday in mid-December for its first ever Christmas event for children.  The museum was decorated as it might have looked in the 1840’s, when the town’s most famous rector, Reverend Fearon, arrived to live there.  The pine Christmas tree smelt beautiful and I have to admit to thinking that, with its handmade decorations made by local primary children, it looked prettier than it would with modern lights and shiny baubles.  Many of those children and their parents visited the Old Rectory over the day to play with traditional games and have a go at some of the craft activities on offer.  It was a truly magical, nostalgic day.
